Special Ops

Wet leaves glinted with soft LED light as the Marine transporter lowered itself out of the heavy night skies towards them. The upper branches of the trees were whipped and thrown as the giant, bulky craft maneuvered its way towards the clearing; flights of birds, awakened from their slumber, were thrown one way and another.

“Squad One, you are clear to disembark!” the words of the transporter pilot sounded through Dane and the others’ suit-to-suit communicators. The transporter was hovering over the clearing, too large to land fully, but above a long, sloping clear-cut dotted with scrub bushes below. The side bay doors opened, their ramps half-extending downwards.

“Go, go, go!” Dane called, still sixteen feet up in the air. He was the first to lunge forward, heavy metal boots hitting the lip of the ramp as he jumped down.

WHAM! He hit the ground in a crouch, immediately rebounding forward into a roll and skidding to a halt, pulling his gun from his thigh to take point as the others jumped and landed around him. The drop was performed perfectly, with the Mechanized Infantry fanning out into a square of four people, until each of them were crouching with their guns pointed over their knees, scanning the dark woods around.
